Preliminary public consultation on the use of Holiday Rental Homes.  

The Canary Islands Government has presented its legislative initiative to regulate holiday rental homes.  The initiative aims to involve citizens in proposing ideas on how holiday homes should be regulated.

The problems that the initiative is intended to solve.

The initiative text shows a certain assumption that holiday rental homes are the cause of certain problems such as a lack of income and taxation, an increase of the carrying capacity of the island, the lack of residential housing on the island, …

It is good to participate.

What is certain is that we can all contribute ideas so that the new Law is in accordance with the interests that you defend, and it is an excellent opportunity to present opinions, proposals, ideas, and everything that you think is good for the Canary Islands Government to know. It is good to participate.

The advantages should be assessed as well.

LAJARES LAW OFFICES does not consider that the most suitable way to regulate Holiday Dwellings is by directly attributing the possible conflicts that their existence generates, as this could condition positions and generate even more conflict. Perhaps the advantages, of which there are many as well, should also be assessed.

The need to regulate an activity that has grown tremendously.

It would be ideal to present to the citizens that it is necessary to regulate an activity which has grown a lot, and which has not been correctly legislated by the Canary Islands Government in the previous years and which deserves to be regulated, quantitatively and qualitatively.

This message was intended to be conveyed at the explanatory day on 27 October, although the text of the proposal is slightly different from what was conveyed.
